A design guide for professionals in the construction industry
The construction sector accounts for about 40% of carbon emissions, 50% of all extracted materials, and 35% of waste generated. Several EU policies identifies increased use of wood in construction as a key component in achieving decarbonization and a green transition of the construction sector.
Despite their recognized climate and carbon removal benefits, wood materials remain considerably under-utilised in the construction sector.
This Design Guide targets professionals in the construction industry, particularly clients and designers, and aims to provide information and inspiration about using wood in construction to facilitate and encourage its use.
Who is behind the Build-in-Wood Design Guide?
The Build-in-Wood Design Guide is an output of the EU funded research and innovation project Build-in-Wood running from Sep 2019 – Aug 2024.
The ambition of the project is to help make optimized and cost-effective wood construction methods common practice in the European construction sector.
The Build-in-Wood Consortium consists of 21 partners from 12 different countries, covering the entire wood construction value chain from forest to end-user.
